Biodiversity and woody biomass: The benefits of a bio-based economy to biodiversity and sustainable forest management

Webinar with moderated panel debate and audience Q&A

The European Commission’s ambition to become the first climate neutral continent by 2050 and achieve a 55% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 is center to a number of policy initiatives, which are also critical to the biomass and bioenergy industry. After adopting a new Biodiversity Strategy in 2020, further key deliverables in 2021 will be a revamp of RED2 and the EU Forestry Strategy to set the course for effective afforestation, forest preservation and restoration, while protecting biodiversity.

This discussion aims to provide different geographical perspectives (from Europe and the United States) on how sustainable forest management helps to grow biodiversity and strengthen the resilience of healthy forests. The panel debate will discuss how current and future practices of sustainable forest management are an essential aspect of reaching the objectives of the European Green Deal and the EU’s new Biodiversity Strategy.
